Winter it perfect time for some snow adventure on white slopes. Just about 2 hours drive from Christchurch, Canterbury has to offer two bigger, commercial ski fields: Mt Hutt and Porters.

Mt Hutt counts as one of the largest ski fields with one of the longest vertical drops in South Island. It offers beautiful scenery views on Southern Alps and on clear day also view all the way to Pacific Ocean. Mt Hutt has typically longest snow season. It offers modern chair lifts and has slopes for all levels, from advanced to beginners. In between your skiing adventure you can relax in café or have a nice lunch in restaurant.

Porters is the closest ski field to Christchurch. It also suits all types of skiers and snowboarders. It operates with one chairlift, t – bars and one plater tow. Porters offers complimentary shuttle from the chain fitting area for all who comes with their own vehicle. After you have enjoyed few rides we recommend to try out their well recommended Porters café.

What else do you need to know?

To reach Mt Hutt you would need a 4 wheel drive or car chains. There are also possibilities for shuttle transport from Christchurch to Mt Hutt and to Porters.

To rent a ski gear we would recommend either do it in Christchurch or Darfield, which is on the way. If you do wish to ski more often we recommend keeping an eye on special early bird prices for a seasonal pass, which is usually available few months before the season starts.

Alright, ready?? 🙂
