New Zealand is a place of adventure, outdoors and action. That is the way our tourism promoters advertise and we would agree that most of the visitors through our doors are looking to explore this beautiful country with a bit of adrenaline along the way. That is why we are excited about Christchurch’s newest tourism attraction which is perfect for anyone looking for a bit of adventure, outdoors or adrenaline!

Christchurch Adventure Park is set to open this December (2016) and is a downhill mountain bike park and adventure area. Additional activities will include a ‘mountain coaster’, flying fox (zipline), canopy tours, sightseeing tours and many more new opportunities to hike and explore the Christchurch’s Port Hills. At the base of the adventure park will be restaurants and cafes for your convenience, as well as a few shops that will include bike hire for use on the downhill trails. What makes this Christchurch activity even more enticing is that it is also very accessible with the local bus system, it is not far from Christchurch city centre and is not ‘out of the way’ for those driving to seek this adrenaline rush in Christchurch.

For those that come to New Zealand seeking mountain bike adventures, this will be a great attraction to visit. Chair lifts will take the riders and their bikes to the top of the forest, and from there they can choose the appropriate courses to navigate. Christchurch is already a key spot for mountain bike enthusiasts with many tracks that scale the port hills as well as other areas of Canterbury such as, Bottle Lake Forest and McLeans Island. Mountain bikers from around New Zealand have already expressed their excitement for this new addition to outdoors adventure opening in December. For international tourists this new venture in Christchurch will open opportunities for more outdoor adventures, better accessibility to the stunning port hills and a great adventure filled day out!

The Port Hills in Christchurch are already well set up for a new attraction like this, many great cafes and restaurants are tucked in at the bottom of the hill. Views at the top of the Port Hills give tourist a great lookout over the Canterbury plains and throughout Diamond Harbour and Lyttelton. There are also great family activities such as picnic spots and adventure playgrounds across the Port Hills. And now there is more to enjoy!

Watch this space… we are looking forward to hearing the experiences of guests at The Old Countryhouse who have tried this new Adventure Park!!
