Getting Around Christchurch from The Old Countryhouse
Inner city Christchurch is flat making it a pleasant place to walk or ride a bike. The trip to Cathedral Square along Gloucester Street takes you past Latimer Square one of the many parks that give Christchurch its reputation as the Garden
City.
Public buses to the city (including the bus station) and the local beaches leave from our doorstep every 15 minutes. There is also a free bus service around the central city.

Walking
Depending on how fast you walk, it takes 15 - 20 minutes to get here from Cathedral Square along Gloucester Street.
By Bus
Bus No. 21, 83 or 5: To and from the bus station (known as the City Bus Exchange). Ask the driver to let you off at Stanmore Road. The bus stops opposite the hostel. Price per ticket is currently $3.20. You can download the bus route and timetables for each bus

From the Airport
Take the shuttle bus from outside the terminal. They will drop you off at the hostel entrance. Prices are currently $29.00 for one passenger and $5 per additional passenger. Click here to book your airport shuttle.
Alternatively you can take the public bus no.3 from outside the terminal. The fare is currently $7.50 to the City Bus Exchange. Then take bus no. 21 (fare is currently $3.20) to Mt. Pleasant and ask the bus driver to let you off at Stanmore Road. The bus stops

From the Train Station
Take the shuttle bus from outside the station. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will drop you off at the hostel entrance. Prices are currently $6 per passenger. There is no public bus from the train station to the city!
Hitchhiking
To/from the North: You will come into the city along the Main North Road and can take Bus 16 to the Bus Exchange then change to Bus 21. The fare is currently $3.20 and you can download timetables by clicking on the links.
To/from the South: You will come into the city along the Main Soutn Road and can take Bus 5 almost directly to the hostel (It will stop at the Bus
Exchange where you will stay on the bus to carry on the trip to the hostel). Ask the bus driver to be let out on the corner of Cashel Street and Stanmore Road. This is less than 5 minutes walk from the hostel and the fare is currently $3.20 and you can download timetables by clicking on
the links.
